Chinese New Year

Honouring family ancestors and the gods of the household, the Chinese New Year in Johannesburg is a massive festivity. Vigorous dragon dancing, tea ceremonies and traditional Chinese food draw communities to Bronkhorstspruit's Hau Temple, near Pretoria, and Cyrildene, Johannesburg's Chinatown.

Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese solar calendar, falling on a different date every year. In 2010 it coincides with San Valentine's Day, providing an opportunity for couples to combine spectacle and romance

FNB Dance Umbrella

The Mousetrap

After 59 years, Agatha Christie’s classic thriller THE MOUSETRAP continues on the world’s longest run! Over 24 000 performances at the St Martin’s Theatre in London and still counting! Official celebrations for the 60th anniversary of The Mousetrap are well underway in London’s West End. To celebrate they are licensing 60 professional productions of the play all over the world during the anniversary period (1st September 2011 to 31st December 2013) to mark this historic milestone, and our South African production is one of their Diamond 60!

The Phantom of the Opera

Broadway’s longest running musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera has experienced sell out seasons around the world, and now will make its long awaited arrival in Johannesburg playing at the Teatro at Montecasino from 31 Jan 2012.
Having played to more than 100 million people in 149 cities around the world, this full- scale production directed by Harold Prince is arguably the most popular musical of all time.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sweepingly romantic score includes “Music of the Night” and “All I Ask of You”, and will be performed by a stellar South African cast. The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a disfigured musical genius known only as ‘The Phantom’ who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House.
Mesmerised by the talents and beauty of a young soprano - Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, The Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide.

Africa Energy Indaba 2012
